Our Legacy
The Whitley Printing Company’s story is about more than just putting ink on paper for profit for 58 years. It’s about a fierce focus on quality and customer service driven by the best technology, smart growth, and visionary leadership through good times and bad. It’s about family — the Jones’ family, but also our extended family of customers, employees, and suppliers — and even our competitors.
THEN
J.G. “Johnny” Jones operated a mimeograph and a 1250 Multilith for two years in the kitchen and bedroom of Paul C. Whitley’s widow’s apartment, before he bought the business in 1952, beginning what would become the preeminent graphic communication solution provider in central Texas. Johnny was loathe to make capital expenditures without the cash flow to support them. Even so, by 1954 our growth -- fueled by our reputation for quality and customer service -- made it necessary to move operations to larger quarters on West Sixth Street, where we installed our first large-format press.
The early ’60s saw accelerating growth through our unwavering attention to customer satisfaction. We introduced a profit-sharing plan for employees, incorporated, and moved to the Brazos Street location in 1963.
In July 1968, a massive fire reduced our operations to rubble. The next day, through the graciousness of local friends and competitors, we were operating from five different locations without losing a single man-hour of production. The plant and warehouse were rebuilt in record time and operational by December 1968.
The ’70s and ’80s brought continued growth and new -- but familiar -- ownership as Ron Jones gradually assumed more responsibility for our direction from his father.
NOW
Through the end of the century and into the new millennium, The Whitley Printing Company has continued to prosper and grow because of our unwavering commitment to the highest levels of quality, innovative technology, and customer service -- the only way we’ve ever known. Our approach demands a great deal from our employees and rewards their results—we’re proud each of our press operators has been with us for 20 years or more.
In September 2006, Kevin Cassis was named President and CEO of The Whitley Co. As Kevin leads us into the future, it’s with a solid appreciation of our past—it was Johnny Jones who initially hired Kevin as a representative in 2000 and it was Ron Jones who convinced Kevin to assume leadership of the company in 2006.
In January 2008, The Whitley Co. said goodbye to our home of 45 years when we moved into our new, ultramodern Ben White Blvd. facility that’s not only larger, but sports the latest in technology and capabilities for protecting and preserving the environment.
Our legacy is more than just 58 years of history—it forms the basis of our identity and how we treat our customers. It’s about family. And it’s about continually looking forward for better solutions for our customers—but always with an eye on what it took to get us here.
