Postage Payment

Whitley has a fully equipped and staffed mailing facility that can handle all your mailing needs. However, if you’d rather handle your mailing, here are the steps to pay for direct mail postage:

  1. Choose how you want to pay the postage. There are three different ways to pay bulk mailing postage.
    • Pre-canceled Stamps: Allows you to apply stamps onto mailpieces. With pre-canceled stamps, you affix a lower postage rate and pay the difference when you drop off your mailing. Stamps add a personal touch to your envelope and may give your customer an added incentive to open and read your mail.
    • Postage Meter: Allows you to prepay postage by metering postage onto each mailpiece. You pay to fill your postage meter in advance and then replenish it as your postage balance runs out.
    • Permit Imprint: The most popular and convenient way to pay for postage, especially for high volume mailings. Your printer prints postage information, called an “indicia,” in each mailpiece’s upper-right corner.

  2. Get a mailing permit, which is permission to use a certain postage payment method for bulk and discounted mailings. There is no fee to apply for a permit to mail with pre-canceled stamps or a postage meter. There is a one-time $175 fee to apply for a permit to mail with permit imprint. The fee pays for setting up your permit imprint account and is due when submitting your application for a permit imprint. You will have to pay the fee again if you don’t do a bulk mailing at least once every two years.
  3. Pay an annual mailing fee, or “bulk mailing fee”, which gives you permission to mail one mail class from one postal facility for 365 days. For instance, you’d need to pay two fees to receive bulk rates for both first-class mail and standard mail from the same post office. You can’t mail at bulk rates until you pay your annual mailing fee, which is separate from any other application fees or account deposits. The annual mailing fee is $175, which is due when you bring in your first mailing.
